ScrubDrop

Terms of use

Last updated: 29 October 2026

What this is

ScrubDrop lists the hidden data in a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) in your browser, removes the kinds you choose, and writes a new file. There is a free version and a paid one, ScrubDrop Pro, which is a single payment of $29 for the Personal licence (non-commercial use) or $49 for the Commercial licence and not a subscription. Using either means you accept these terms. If you do not, do not use it.

Check the output

ScrubDrop works on what is stored in the file, by kind. It rebuilds the file from the parts it knows are needed and drops the kinds of hidden data you chose. It does not read text inside images, it does not judge whether visible text is sensitive, and white or tiny text is only pointed out, not removed. Before it lets you download, it opens the new file again with different software and checks it; a file that does not pass is not written. That check is a strong signal, not a promise: Office files vary, and new places to keep data appear with new versions of Office.

It does not promise that Word, Excel or PowerPoint will open the new file without a complaint or an offer to repair it. The checks are made by separate readers, not by Office itself. Files that are digitally signed, protected with IRM or a password, macro-enabled (.docm, .xlsm, .pptm) or in the old binary formats (.doc, .xls, .ppt) are not handled. The limits are listed together under What this tool cannot do on the scrub page.

Before you send a cleaned file to anyone, open it and check it yourself — look at every page, sheet and slide. Removing hidden sheets or rows in a workbook replaces formulas with their last calculated values, and removing an embedded object leaves its picture. You, not ScrubDrop, are responsible for what you disclose.

Not advice

Nothing here is legal advice about what must be removed from a document before it is shared, or how. If you need advice, talk to a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.

Your files

Your file is read in your browser and is not transmitted to us — see Privacy. Because we never receive it, we cannot recover, resend or delete a file for you, and we have no record of what you checked. Keep your own copy of the original.

Provided "as is"

ScrubDrop is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will work with any particular document.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tekiba and the operators of ScrubDrop are not liable for any loss or damage arising out of your use of, or inability to use, this tool — including information that was disclosed, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential loss — even if advised of the possibility. Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the tool — which is nothing for the free version and $29 or $49, whichever you paid, for ScrubDrop Pro.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you; the rest still does.

Acceptable use

Use ScrubDrop only on documents you are entitled to process. Do not use it to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights, or to attack or overload the site. Do not present it as your own product or imply that we endorse yours.

Trademarks

Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Office are trademarks of the Microsoft group of companies. ScrubDrop is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Microsoft; the names appear on this site only to describe the files it works on and the software that makes them. Other names are the trademarks of their owners and are used the same way.

Third-party components

Files are unpacked with fflate (MIT), rebuilt with JSZip (MIT), and checked again with fflate, xmldom (MIT), SheetJS (Apache License 2.0) and docx-redline-js (MIT, with diff-match-patch, Apache License 2.0), and read a third time with fast-xml-parser (MIT, with its MIT-licensed dependencies). Their licence texts ship with the site under /assets/vendor/.

ScrubDrop Pro is a one-time payment of $29 USD for the Personal licence (non-commercial use) or $49 USD for the Commercial licence. It is not a subscription, there is nothing to cancel, and there is no account to create. What you get is a licence key, saved in your own browser. Nothing expires.

The free version checks one file at a time, lists everything it finds, and removes document properties, comments and tracked changes (accepting the changes). The paid version also cleans several files at once, removes the other kinds of hidden data it finds — hidden sheets, rows, columns and slides, pivot caches, links to other files, defined names, speaker notes, objects outside the slide, embedded objects, custom XML, editing-session ids and image metadata — can reject tracked changes instead of accepting them, and writes a report of the check.

The purchase includes all future updates to ScrubDrop Pro while the service is offered. That is a statement about updates, not about how long the service will run. Your key is checked in your browser (the licence service is asked at most once a month whether it has been refunded — see Privacy), but the tool itself is loaded from this site, so it works for as long as the site is served. We do not describe it with any word that promises a length of time, because that is a promise nobody can make.

Which licence applies depends on what the documents are for, not on what the tool does: both unlock the same features with the same kind of key. The Personal licence is for you to use on your own documents outside work. Use for work — for a business or other organisation, for your employer, or on work delivered to a client — needs the Commercial licence. If you are not sure, the Commercial licence covers both.

The licence is for you or your organisation to use. It is not sold per seat and we do not count installations; it is checked in your browser, and we would rather say plainly that somebody determined to share a key can, than pretend otherwise. What the key protects is that nobody can manufacture one.

Payment and refunds

Payments are handled by Paddle, who are the merchant of record. Your card details go to Paddle and never to this site. The price is in US dollars; any sales tax or VAT that applies where you live is worked out by Paddle and shown in the checkout before you pay.

If it does not do what you needed, ask for a refund within 30 days and you will get one — once. Write to hello@tekiba.app with the email address you bought with. A refunded key stops unlocking the paid features; the free version keeps working.

Our no-questions refund is one per customer. Buying again after a refund is welcome — you are not blocked, and the key works exactly as before — but we will not approve a second "it was not what I needed" refund. We would rather say that plainly than approve the first and argue about the second.

That limit is on our own refund offer and not on your rights. It does not affect any statutory right to a refund you have where you live, and it does not affect Paddle's own policy if the software is faulty or does not work at all. If something is broken, write to us — that is not the same conversation.

The refund above is the same for both licences: Personal and Commercial are each refunded within 30 days, and the no-questions refund is one per customer across the two.

You are encouraged to try the free version on a file of your own before paying, so that the question "does this work on my documents?" is answered before any money changes hands.

Changes and contact

These terms may change; the date at the top will change with them, and continuing to use the tool means accepting the new version. Questions can be sent to hello@tekiba.app.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms, and any dispute about the software they cover, are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be settled by discussion is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Japan. If you are a consumer, nothing in this section takes away protections you have under the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live. Purchases are made from Paddle, the merchant of record, and the purchase itself is governed by Paddle's terms.
